Gratitude for the Little Things

Socks have always had a life of their own
They disappear one at a time somewhere in your home

Socks prevent blisters from rubbing shoe to skin
They act as padding and work well, whether thick or thin

Socks allow kids to tip toe and stay up late
They keep parents in the dark and from getting irate

Socks work well even with one or two holes
The meet our needs, truth be told

Socks keep us warm when the weather is cold
They are worn from infancy until we are very old

Socks have always been a part of my bedroom chest
I just realized it may not be so for all the rest

Winter brings with it sidewalks cold as rock
Where the homeless spend days walking block to block
To keep themselves warm so their knees won’t knock
Who don’t have time to look at their lives and take stock

“Who cares how they’re made,” you might ask
“Just get them socks – that’s the task”

“Why worry about them?” some may say
“Our economy is a mess and stocks drop every day”

Bolder than a hawk
Diogenes started to talk
Gathered his inside919 flock
Shot a film about the Father of Sock
Launched the idea from the insider dock
And had to beat the ticking clock
Time to walk the walk and talk the talk
Now IS the time for US to take stock

As you pad around your home
And chilly weather abounds
Will you remember those who are cold
And be the ONE who is audacious and bold?
